On the very last day of 2021, I completed my second full draft of my second novel Like Pigs. At the time I naively decided that under no circumstances would I alter the novel (except to edit it to improve its quality, of course).
However, in the weeks that have passed, I’ve realised it’s necessary to go back into the manuscript and change a few things around. Namely, the overall word count is way too short. It currently stands at approximately 40,000 words, and so, I think that when I am approaching literary agents and publishers, they are put off by how short it is.
This isn’t the only reason. I’ve since read back over the manuscript and realised that there are things I originally intended on saying with the novel that didn’t make it into the final manuscript. In the coming weeks and months, I will fully dissect the novel and hopefully end up with a superior final product.
I’m looking forward to it!
