I’m Flying Home

It hasn’t quite hit me yet, but in a week I will be back in England. It honestly feels like a lifetime ago when I landed here in Canada in June of this year. A lot has happened in that time. I’ve churned out a LOT of writing and artwork: a lot of rubbish, I’m sure, but there’s been a few gems in there as well.

Throughout the Summer, I edited a dystopian novel called Like Pigs, and then drafted and edited another dystopian called Human Zoo. I’ve yet to find homes for them yet (I’m still hoping to see them traditionally published one day) but I don’t want to rush the process.

Throughout Autumn, I worked on the first draft of a dark fantasy novel titled The Unsetting Sun. This will be the second novel in my upcoming fantasy series, and I’ll spend much of 2023 compiling further drafts and edits.

My debut novel, The Black Rook, will be published in a matter of weeks. I’m excited to get started on the marketing side of things.

For the first couple of weeks after I land in the U.K., however, I want to enjoy myself, spend time with family and friends, and prepare myself for Christmas. I will undoubtedly write during that time, but I’m shelving the hard work until next year.

It’s been a tough, tough year for me, as I’m sure it has been for many others. Whilst I prepare myself for the release date of The Black Rook and get myself into the Christmas spirit, I’ll be taking a step back from my creative writing to reflect on the year that’s soon to pass and to prepare for the next one.

I hope that 2023 provides a bit more stability for me. The last few years have been, in no uncertain terms, chaotic.
