Back on the Editing Game with Like Pigs

As I mentioned in my last blog post, I’ve finally conquered my writer’s block demon. I’m writing again, I’m drawing again. And, thank God, I’m editing again.

A project which I’ve blogged about in the past is a novel I wrote a couple of years ago called Like Pigs – a dystopian thriller set in a future, fascist England.

Like Pigs has been through several developmental edits already, and having had quite a lot of time to sit on the project and ruminate about it, I have decided to go back in. I’m editing as I read through the manuscript, but the more crucially I’m also reworking many sections and adding new chapters.

The novel is on the short side, clocking in around 60,000 words so far. I’m not bulking the manuscript simply to make it more commercially viable, however, as there are several chapters that I believe, in hindsight, deserve expanding on. The characters need more development, world-building needs to be fleshed out, and plot points need ironing.

It’s turning into another massive project. A project within a project, if you will. But I believe I’m crafting a much stronger novel by altering it.

Once I have worked through the whole manuscript, I will take some more time away from it, polish it up some more, then approach publishers with the novel.

Let’s see if anything comes of it!
