I’m finally back into the swing of writing and editing!
It felt like I’d never get back into my groove, but somehow I managed it. After penning a few poems, writing some Medium posts, and scribbling in my journal, the reflex of writing returned with full force. It goes to show that if you’re determined and you push yourself through tough spots you can motivate yourself back into your old routines.
Yesterday, I edited two chapters of my novel Like Pigs – a novel I’ve sat on for a few years now, chopping and changing it, shaping it into something resembling a good novel. There’s still a lot of work to do, as I plan to bulk the narrative out a bit. It’s just under 60,000 words at present, which is very much on the short side of the spectrum.
Since I last edited the project, my ideas and goals for the book have shifted a bit. I began writing the novel wanting to talk about animal rights and human rights, but as life has pushed and pulled me in various directions over the past couple of years I’ve come to adopt a more dynamic view of the situation we find ourselves in here in modern society (thanks, in no small part, to the Pandemic).
I’ve also resumed writing poetry on a regular basis now, which has a direct positive influence on my mental health. Of course, it’s no silver bullet for either my mental health or curing my creative dips, but it certainly helps.
I start my new day job next Monday, so this week I’m focused on making the most of the week off I have from the real world.
Creating has started to excite me again.
